Following in the footsteps of one of Illinois’ most important historical figures – Abraham Lincoln – more than 1,000 area Boy Scouts will take part in the annual Lincoln Trail Hike in April.

The Abraham Lincoln Council Boy Scouts of America partners with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for the event in which hikers trek the 20 miles Lincoln journeyed from New Salem to Springfield to borrow books. Along the way, they will pick up trash. Scouts receive a special patch for the event after finishing the trail, which winds through Sangamon and Menard counties.
