According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, the estimated cost of a July 4th cookout for 10 is $55.84, or $5.58 per person, decreasing from last year by about 3 percent.

The menu for the cookout included hot dogs, cheeseburgers and buns, pork spare ribs, potato salad, baked beans, corn chips, watermelon, ketchup and mustard, lemonade, and chocolate milk. An AFBF economist noted that though prices for beef have continued to increase, prices for other meats, as well as dairy products, have decreased.

The largest price decrease actually came from 1 package of hamburger buns. In 2013, consumers paid $1.67 for a package, and in 2015, the price dropped to $1.50, a 10.7 percent decrease.
