Illinois State Fair

For more than 150 years, generations of Illinois families from Chicago to Cairo have shared a singular summertime tradition: the Illinois State Fair.

Along with food, music and family fun, the Illinois State Fair offers ‘Grade A’ livestock competition. In addition to some impressive animals, the fair introduces visitors to unique animal product exhibits and management techniques of today’s agriculture.

“The Illinois State Fair provides opportunities to showcase Illinois agriculture and some of the finest quality livestock to be found anywhere in the U.S.,” says Brian Sager, the fair’s general livestock superintendent. “We also have one of the most exciting sale of champions you will find anywhere.” Money raised from the sale goes to support the college careers of its young participants.

For many, the fair rekindles old friendships – and forges new ones.

“One of the true joys for me is the opportunity to reconnect with friends and neighbors in Illinois agriculture,” Sager says.

The 2015 state fair runs Aug. 13-23. Visit the Illinois State Fair website at agr.state.il.us/isf for this year’s livestock judging schedule and other events, including Agriculture Day on Aug. 18, Futures for Kids Day on Aug. 21 and the discounted Family Day on Aug. 23.
