This autumn, experience the art of Illinois.

This autumn, experience the art of Illinois. Support local – and incredibly talented – artists by attending one of the many Illinois art showcases planned for this autumn. Here are a few to consider:

The Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mount Vernon hosts a showcase of hand-blown glass sculpture and functional art by glass artists Cameron Smith and Jan Thomas, of Murphysboro, Illinois. The exhibit is open Jan. 15 – Feb. 13. Later in the year, the museum will host it’s annual Cedarhurst Craft Fair Sept. 10 – 11, featuring more than 130 artists.

In January, the Rockford Art Museum welcomes “Pause and Affect: Gregory Scott and Joan Truckenbrod” exhibit, which celebrates the work of painter and videographer Gregory Scott showcased as a counterpoint to the installations and multimedia presentations of digital artist Joan Truckenbrod. This exhibit will be on display through April 2011.

Vera Klement, one of Illinois’ most distinguished artists and whose work is featured on our cover, has paintings in numerous Illinois collections, including those at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois State Museum Art Gallery in Springfield, and the Block Museum of Art at Northwestern University in Evanston.
