Seeing a hummingbird buzz around your yard is a sure sign of spring – if you can catch a glimpse before they dart off, that is. Luckily, you can easily attract these one-of-a-kind birds by following these simple tips:
- Plant red or orange flowers, especially tube-shaped ones such as bee balm, trumpet creepers or cardinal flowers. These colors attract hummingbirds, and the tubular shape helps the bird more easily gain access to the sweet nectar.
- Use a bird feeder filled with sugar water to mimic nectar. Keep the feeder clean to avoid mold, which can be harmful to the birds.
