4-H Ag Teen Teachers

In Rochelle, 4-H teens take the lead in teaching their peers about agriculture.

A new program called 4-H Agriculture Teen Teachers recruited teenagers to receive training in positive youth development, teaching strategies, behavior management and agriculture information that they then passed on to younger children in the community.

For its inaugural year in 2016, the program centered around the Olympics with a focus on what agricultural resources Brazil shares with the U.S.

Lisa Hepker, 4-H youth development educator for Boone, DeKalb and Ogle counties, says the teens taught Ag in the Classroom lessons on corn, beef, wheat and soybeans.
